Sonos Beam Ultra Soundbar with 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos

Sonos Beam Ultra Soundbar with 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos

The Sonos Beam Ultra Soundbar is a compact smart soundbar featuring a nine-driver acoustic system, nine Class-D amplifiers, and 7.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos surround sound. Designed for home theater and music listening, it combines dedicated upward-firing speakers, AI-powered Speech Enhancement, HDMI eARC connectivity, and wireless streaming in a low-profile enclosure available in Black and White.

Designed for home entertainment enthusiasts seeking immersive TV audio without installing a large speaker system, the Beam Ultra delivers surround sound from a single compact unit. Four low-profile woofers reproduce bass frequencies, while five tweeters provide directional sound and dedicated height effects. Its acoustic design accommodates movie soundtracks, television dialogue, music, and gaming audio. Dolby Atmos processing creates a spacious listening experience, with upward-firing drivers reflecting height-channel effects toward the listening area. Whether upgrading television speakers, building a compact Dolby Atmos home theater, or adding wireless music playback to a living room, the Beam Ultra combines several entertainment functions in one soundbar.

The Beam Ultra integrates with the Sonos wireless audio ecosystem and supports expansion with compatible subwoofers and surround speakers. Trueplay room tuning adjusts the soundbar's equalization according to room acoustics, while four levels of AI Speech Enhancement help improve dialogue intelligibility. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, Apple AirPlay 2, and Sonos Voice Control provide multiple playback and control options. Both Black and White versions feature the same acoustic architecture, connectivity, dimensions, and performance specifications.

Immersive 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos Home Theater Audio

Nine-Driver Soundbar Architecture

The Sonos Beam Ultra incorporates nine individually amplified drivers arranged to reproduce a combination of front, side, and overhead audio effects.

Four low-profile woofers handle bass reproduction, while five tweeters manage high-frequency and midrange content. Each driver receives power from a dedicated Class-D digital amplifier tuned to the soundbar's acoustic configuration.

This arrangement allows the Beam Ultra to create a 7.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos listening experience from one compact speaker enclosure.

Dedicated Upward-Firing Dolby Atmos Drivers

Two upward-firing tweeters use directional acoustic horns to project sound toward the ceiling. Reflected audio contributes to the perception of height and overhead movement during compatible Dolby Atmos playback.

The remaining tweeters distribute audio toward the front and sides of the listening area, supporting dialogue placement and stereo separation.

Dolby Atmos playback requires compatible encoded content and an HDMI eARC connection for supported high-bandwidth formats.

Four Low-Profile Woofers

The Beam Ultra includes four low-profile woofers designed to reproduce low-frequency content within its compact enclosure.

These drivers support bass effects in movies, music, and television programming without requiring a separate subwoofer for basic operation.

For listeners seeking additional low-frequency extension, the soundbar can be expanded with compatible Sonos subwoofers.

Specialized Tweeter Configuration

Forward-Firing Center Tweeter

A dedicated forward-facing tweeter supports center-channel reproduction, helping maintain the placement and clarity of dialogue during movies and television programming.

This configuration complements the Beam Ultra's dialogue-processing features and provides a defined center image.

Side-Firing Horn-Loaded Tweeters

Two side-facing tweeters use acoustic horns to distribute sound toward the edges of the listening area.

These drivers contribute to stereo separation and help create a wider presentation than the soundbar's physical dimensions might suggest.

Upward-Firing Height Tweeters

Two additional tweeters direct audio toward the ceiling for compatible Dolby Atmos content.

Their directional horn design supports height-channel reproduction and contributes to the Beam Ultra's immersive surround sound presentation.

AI-Powered Speech Enhancement and Dialogue Clarity

Automatic Voice Detection

The Beam Ultra incorporates AI-powered Speech Enhancement technology that identifies human voices within supported audio content.

Its processing helps emphasize spoken dialogue when background effects, music, and environmental sounds make speech difficult to understand.

This functionality is particularly useful for television programming, films, documentaries, and other dialogue-focused content.

Four Adjustable Speech Enhancement Levels

The Sonos app provides four selectable levels of Speech Enhancement, allowing listeners to customize dialogue emphasis according to personal preference.

Users can increase speech intelligibility when needed or reduce enhancement for a more balanced presentation.

Night Sound Listening Mode

Night Sound reduces the intensity of louder passages while emphasizing quieter sounds.

This feature helps maintain dialogue audibility at reduced listening volumes, making it useful for late-night television viewing or shared living environments.

Night Sound can be activated through the Sonos app.

Trueplay Room Tuning and Sound Optimization

Room-Adaptive Equalization

Sonos Trueplay measures the acoustic characteristics of the listening environment and adjusts equalization to suit the room.

Reflections from walls, furniture, and other surfaces can influence speaker performance. Trueplay compensates for the measured environment to provide a more consistent listening experience.

The Beam Ultra supports Trueplay tuning with compatible iOS and Android devices.

Integrated Far-Field Microphone Array

The soundbar includes a far-field microphone array with beamforming and multichannel echo cancellation.

These technologies help distinguish voice commands from surrounding audio and support compatible voice-control functions.

The microphone system also participates in supported Trueplay tuning and portable surround configurations.

Adjustable Bass, Treble, and Loudness

The Sonos app provides separate controls for bass, treble, and loudness settings.

These adjustments allow listeners to customize the soundbar's tonal balance according to personal preferences, program material, and room conditions.

Simulated Overhead Sound

The Beam Ultra includes a Simulated Overhead Sound setting for installations where the space above the soundbar is obstructed.

When enabled, the soundbar processes height effects to simulate overhead audio rather than relying entirely on ceiling reflections.

This configuration is selectable through the Sonos app and is particularly useful when the soundbar is positioned beneath shelving or other obstacles.

Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Wireless Music Streaming

Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity

The Beam Ultra supports Wi-Fi 6 networking and connects to compatible 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless networks.

Wireless networking provides access to supported music streaming services, multiroom playback, and other Sonos ecosystem functions.

The soundbar works with compatible wireless routers supporting IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax networking standards.

Bluetooth 5.3 Audio Streaming

Bluetooth 5.3 allows compatible smartphones, tablets, computers, and other Bluetooth audio devices to stream directly to the soundbar.

A dedicated Bluetooth pairing button simplifies establishing a connection with supported playback equipment.

This functionality provides an additional listening option when users prefer direct Bluetooth audio streaming.

Apple AirPlay 2

Apple AirPlay 2 enables wireless audio streaming from compatible Apple devices.

Users can send supported music and other audio content from iPhones, iPads, and compatible Apple equipment to the Beam Ultra.

AirPlay 2 compatibility requires an Apple device running iOS 11.4 or later.

HDMI eARC Television Connectivity

Single-Cable TV Audio Connection

The Beam Ultra connects to compatible televisions through an HDMI ARC or eARC connection.

An HDMI cable is included for connecting the soundbar to the television's designated audio return channel port.

This connection allows supported televisions to transmit audio to the soundbar without requiring separate analog audio cables.

Dolby Atmos and High-Resolution Audio Formats

The soundbar supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, stereo PCM, and multichannel PCM audio formats.

Dolby Atmos signals carried through compatible Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD streams are also supported.

Supported high-bandwidth formats require HDMI eARC connectivity. Available playback formats depend on the television, connected source devices, and audio content.

Optional Optical Audio Connection

Televisions without HDMI ARC or eARC can connect through an optical audio output using the separately available Sonos Optical Audio Adapter.

The adapter works with the included HDMI cable to provide an alternative connection method for compatible televisions.

Optical connectivity does not provide the same high-bandwidth audio capabilities as HDMI eARC.

HDMI CEC and TV Remote Operation

HDMI Consumer Electronics Control allows supported television remotes to operate compatible soundbar functions.

This integration reduces the need for a separate remote controller during everyday television viewing.

Sonos Voice Control and Touch Operation

Hands-Free Voice Commands

The Beam Ultra supports Sonos Voice Control for compatible hands-free audio commands.

Users can control supported music playback and interact with compatible Sonos devices using voice commands when the microphone system is enabled.

Voice-control availability depends on the supported service, country, and language.

Capacitive Touch Controls

Integrated capacitive controls provide access to common playback and soundbar functions.

Available operations include play, pause, track navigation, volume adjustment, voice-service control, and grouping with compatible Sonos speakers.

The touch interface allows basic operation without opening the Sonos app.

Physical Microphone Privacy Switch

A dedicated microphone switch on the rear panel disconnects power to the microphone system when switched off.

This hardware control disables microphone-dependent functions, including voice commands and supported microphone-based tuning features.

A separate touch control allows users to disable voice services while retaining other microphone-enabled functionality.

Expandable Sonos Wireless Home Theater System

Add a Compatible Sonos Subwoofer

The Beam Ultra can operate as a standalone soundbar or serve as the foundation of a larger Sonos home theater system.

Adding a compatible Sonos subwoofer provides a dedicated low-frequency speaker for deeper bass reproduction.

Compatible subwoofers connect through the Sonos system and are configured using the Sonos app.

Wireless Surround Speaker Expansion

Compatible Sonos speakers can be added as surround channels to expand the home theater listening experience.

Supported rear speakers provide additional sound placement behind the listening position, complementing the Beam Ultra's front and height-channel reproduction.

Compatible Sonos Play and Move 2 speakers can also support portable surround applications under the appropriate system configuration.

Multiroom Audio Integration

The Beam Ultra integrates with compatible Sonos speakers throughout the home.

Users can group supported devices for synchronized music playback across multiple rooms or manage individual listening areas through the Sonos app.

This system architecture allows the home theater setup to expand as additional compatible Sonos products are introduced.

TV Audio Swap with Sonos Headphones

TV Audio Swap allows compatible Sonos headphones to receive television audio from the Beam Ultra.

The feature supports Sonos Ace and Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, allowing listeners to enjoy supported TV audio privately.

Compatible headphones and the soundbar must be configured through the Sonos app with supported software.

Compact Design and Installation Flexibility

Low-Profile Soundbar Enclosure

The Beam Ultra measures approximately 29.5 inches wide, 4.1 inches deep, and 2.6 inches high.

Its compact proportions allow placement on suitable media furniture below a television while maintaining access to the soundbar's top-mounted controls.

The enclosure features a matte exterior available in Black or White.

Optional Wall Mounting

The Beam Ultra supports wall installation using the separately available Sonos Beam Ultra Wall Mount.

The dedicated mounting system positions the soundbar securely beneath or above a compatible television.

Sonos recommends maintaining sufficient clearance around the soundbar to support its directional acoustic design.

Mounting hardware designed for earlier Beam or Arc soundbars is not compatible with the Beam Ultra.

Integrated Status Indicators

Built-in LED indicators provide visual information about connection status, microphone activity, and mute settings.

These indicators complement the physical controls and Sonos app interface during setup and daily operation.
